During the last weekend of January, triple jumper Rebecca Sarè participated in the London Indoor Games and registered a new indoor personal best of 11.90 metres.

A week later, Sarè took in another international competition in Amsterdam to add another indoor experience before the outdoor season gets in full swing.

On this occasion, Malta’s leading triple jumper hopped, stepped and jumped a distance of 12 metres to win the event while improving on her London performance.

Moreover, Sarè set a new stadium record at the Ookmeer Sportscentrum for which she was, no wonder, thrilled.

“I’m so happy that I managed to clear the 1-metre barrier this early in the season,” Sarè said.

“This puts me just 26cm short of my own national record (outdoor), which I believe is within reach now.

“Gaining experience abroad is always a self-learning experience, and I’m glad I took part in these two indoor competitions where the facilities are so novel to us in Malta.”

Sarè’s trips to London and Amsterdam were made possible thanks to the MOC’s Elite Athlete Scheme of which the Pembroke Athleta athlete is now a member following her fine results in the 2015 GSSE and Commonwealth Games in particular.

“I would like to thank my club Pembroke Athleta for their continuous support, MAAA, Kunsill Malti għall-iSport’s Flexi Training Scheme, and finally the MOC for their backing through the MOC Elite Scheme, which made these trips possible,” Sarè said.
