Tanya Borg Cardona has been appointed as head of the Broadcasting Authority, the government announced this evening.

Ms Borg Cardona served as a member of the Housing Authority and several boards within it. She also served as a member of the restructuring board of the Vincenzo Bugeja institutes.

She was a consultant of the Housing Authority's project Equal 'Headstart' and a member of the board Yes to Europe.

The authority's other members are Reno Borg, Peter Fenech, Rose Sciberras and Chris Scicluna.

The Prime Minister thanked Anthony J Tabone who served as  BA chairman and Alfred Mallia Milanes who was a board member.

In a statement, the Opposition said it accepted the nomination in a spirit of consensus in spite of its reservations.

Its reservations, the PN said, were due to Ms Borg Cardona’s lack of experience in the broadcasting sector.

The PN said it expected Ms Borg Cardona to show she was capable of exercising her function with strict impartiality as expected from such an important constitutional position.
