Birkirkara stormed through to the fourth round of the FA Trophy when they crushed Kirkop 6-0 at the Tedesco Stadium.

The Stripes took the lead on 12 minutes when Frank Temile’s cross from the right found Miccoli who was blocked by a Kirkop defender. Temile was first on the rebound and the Nigerian striker volleyed the ball home.

Ten minutes later, Birkirkara almost doubled their lead when Kirkop defender Clive Fenech almost committed an own goal in an attempt to clear Edward Herrera’s cross but luckily for him the ball skimmed just wide.

Miccoli scored a blinder on 38 minutes when he ably turned past his marker and hit a rasping drive that flew into the top corner of the net.

More woes followed for Kirkop as Birkirkara wrapped up the tie on 41 minutes when Plut was brought down in the area by Fenech with referee Malcolm Spiteri pointing to the spot.
Temile stepped up for the kick and drilled the ball past Galea.

Birkirkara continued to increase their lead on the restart and on 47 minutes Temile picked Miccoli on the edge of the area and the Birkirkara forward unleashed a powerful forward that was not withheld by Galea and Plut was on hand to head home.

On 57 minutes, Tedesco withdrew Miccoli and Plut and roped in Juan Barraso and Kurt Zammit and the two substitutes combined two minutes later for Birkirkara’s fifth goal.

Zammit raced clear on the right and sent a low cross towards Barraso who turned past a defender before placing the ball past Galea.

Six minutes later, it was the turn of Zammit to put his name among the scorers when he diverted home Camenzuli’s cross.

Birkirkara will now face the winner of the tie between Valletta and Xewkija Tigers.
