Andrew Grech and Roberta Schembri were the winners of the 2015 Żurrieq Half Marathon which was held yesterday.

Around 850 runners took part in the annual event that also featured a 10km race and a walkathon.

Grech was a clear-cut winner in the men’s half marathon after cruising home in one hour 12.25 minutes. Jesrit Angel Camilleri placed second in 1:21.29 while George Vella was third in 1:22.07.

In the women’s race the honours went to Schembri who crossed the finish line in 1:27.15.

Caroline Ciappara took the runner-up spot in 1:33.39 while Sandra Schembri completed the podium in 1:39.10.

In the men’s 10km race, victory went to Charlton Debono who clocked a time of 34 minutes and one second. Simon Spiteri (34.03) was second ahead of Keith Galea (34.12).

The women’s title was won by Gianella Bugeja Persiano in 41.04. Doreen Camilleri (42.13) and Laura Heikkila (43.48) completed the podium.
