Seeking a new challenge, this time with CC Ortigia, the Serie A1 Italian team, Steve Camilleri goes rolling again with his scoring instincts in evidence once more and as usual very much to the fore with his new team-mates.

The Neptunes and Malta player, who joined the Sicilian side from Syracuse this year after a short stint with Sette Scogli in the previous season following his six-year engagement with RN Bogliasco, continues churning out the goals whichever team he turns out for.

Camilleri has so far finished at the summit of his Italian teams’ scorers lists every year.

After missing his first league match in Italy against AN Brescia, due to his commitment for the national team late last month when inspiring the side to a historic qualification for January’s Euro finals, Camilleri picked his spot 13 times in the next four outings for CC Ortigia.

The first was against RN Savona, a match which was drawn 8-8, then against RN Florentia and Roma Vis Nova, two encounters which the Sicilians lost by a narrow margin.

Camilleri scored a brace in each of the first two matches and then hit a poker the previous weekend. On Saturday he grabbed five goals in his team’s 13-12 defeat against PN Trieste. This tally helped him go top of his team’s goalscorers’ list.

He came in for deserved praise by the media and his coach when helping the Sicilians maintain their competitive momentum, not only through his striking power but also as a versatile component of the team.

So it’s a matter of ‘there we go again’ for Camilleri and definitely a compulsion to watch his skills every time he is in action.
