Wales took a shuddering step towards the KO stages of the Rugby World Cup last night with a bruising 28-25 defeat of England at Twickenham. The hosts had dominated for the first hour but sloppy play at the breakdown delivered the Welsh penalty after penalty, and they kept in touch thanks to the boot of Dan Biggar. Wales scrumhalf Gareth Davies touched down after a superb Welsh move to level the match 25-25 with 10 minutes left and Biggar again struck with five minutes on the clock to hand Wales a famous victory. The win puts Wales top of Pool A with nine points. Other results: Pool D –Italy vs Canada 23-18; Pool B – S. Africa vs Samoa 46-6. Playing today: Pool A (13.00) Australia vs Uruguay; Pool B (15.30) Scotland vs US; Pool D (17.45) Ireland vs Romania.
