This week, Floriana Basketball Club announced that they have extended their collaboration with sponsors Café Del Mar for the second year running.

Ian Mercieca, the Floriana president, said in a statement that the sponsorship will help the club in no small measure as they look to assemble a competitive team for the 2015/16 season.

During the launch of Floriana’s 2015/16 squad, held this week at the Malta National Aquarium complex where Café del Mar is located, Mercieca presented the club’s new signings.

American Chad Patus, who has been playing in Malta for the past two years, was introduced as Floriana’s new foreigner.

“The former Athleta player brings height, strength and shooting prowess, along with loads of experience to the team, giving coach Mario Tabone different options, both in attack and in defence,” Mercieca said.

Anton Axiaq, formerly of champions Virtus Cynergi, and the experienced Abraham Portelli have also joined the Greens this summer.

Floriana, meanwhile, confirmed that Nikola Andrejevic will be guiding the club’s newly-formed U-23 team as well as playing a key role for the senior squad.

Mercieca thanked Charles Zammit Moore for his dedicated efforts in the club’s transfer negotiations and Saviour Ellul, of sponsors Café del Mar, for his on-going support.

The new basketball season gets underway this weekend with the Independence Cup tournaments for men and women at the Ta’ Qali pavilion.
