After completing his postgraduate degree Dr. Gianluca Farrugia decided to delve further into the important subject of the effects of aspirin on the human body, specifically with regards to the medicine's anti-cancerous properties in the human intestines. Working now full-time at University of Malta, Dr. Farrugia forms part of ongoing research, supported by MCST through the R&I Research Development Programme, which aims to identify unknown mechanisms underlying the preventive properties aspirin has against cancer in the intestines.
While always passionate about biology and science in general, Dr.Farrugia is also an aspiring artist. His illustrations adorn a number of local works of short fiction published online, while his flair for drawing also helps him recharge after a long day at the lab.
