The Malta Gay Rights Movement has donated some 150 books to the Education Ministry to be distributed in schools.

These resources, including audiovisual material for teachers, were bought from leftover funds of an EEA/Norway NGO grant programme that started in November 2013 and will come to an end at the end of the month.

The books are mainly about diversity within families, including same-sex relationships, in a bid to start normalising the concept within primary schools, MGRM chairwoman Gabi Calleja said this afternoon.

The donation included three publications about trans children.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo said this donation fit in with the education for all approach and the books could also be useful for parents who did not know how to approach the subject.

The ministry will build on this initiative and increase the number of similar books in schools.
