Birkirkara coach Giovanni Tedesco has set his sights on a "great performance" from his team when they take on West Ham United tomorrow evening at the National Stadium (kick-off 8.45pm).

West Ham United remain favourites to progress to the third qualifying round of the Europa League after winning the first leg 1-0 at Upton Park last week but Tedesco believes that Birkirkara can defy the odds.

"We know that we have to produce a great performance in front of our fans," Tedesco told Times of Malta.

"It's going to be difficult but we have to believe in our chances.

"We are confident after our excellent display in last week's first leg.

"We were disappointed to concede a goal so late in the game but even if the game finished 0-0, we would still have needed a goal to get back into contention and that means that we need to be more constructive in attack.

"We also need to be tight at the back because if we concede, the match will be as good as over."

West Ham trained at Ta' Qali this afternoon soon after arriving in Malta. Their coach said he hoped to see a more fluid game than last week's enabling the visitors to exploit the space behind the Birkirkara defence.
