Mgarr local council said today it is against a suggestion by Labour MP Etienne Grech on improving public access to Fomm ir-Rih Bay.
Reacting to a story published on Times of Malta yesterday, the council said this bay is a gem, untouched by human hands, and improving access could risk ruining it.
The council said it feared that increasing public access could lead to commercial activities in the bay, as had happened elsewhere.
"The bay should continue to be enjoyed in its current state and protected for future generations," it said.
The council said it expected to be consulted if any decisions on the bay were pending.
