Our esteemed Minister for Foreign Affairs chose to express himself in a manner that only an insolent lout should properly adopt, when asked why Ms Sai Mizzi Lang has been given somewhat special treatment by the Government of which he forms part.

He attributed anyone with this opinion with a "pea brain", apparently not taking on board either the sheer rudeness of his mode of expression or the stark fact that he, having denied any knowledge of what his Consular Officer is doing or being paid to do or where she was doing it, was actually confessing to having nothing  more than a pea rattling around in his cerebellum himself.

But when you think about it, this is someone who had told us, without even blushing, that the situation in the Ukraine was only a little local difficulty.

What a country, we have a Cabinet Minister has no clue about the concept of "Cabinet responsibility" (in this, he's on par with his colleagues, of course, notably Chris Cardona on the Sai Mizzi Lang matter in particular, and Leo Brincat on the environment) and who thinks that vulgar insult is an appropriate way to answer perfectly valid questions.

If it were not for the fact that there are some of us who still subscribe to the odd notion that supported argument and informative responses are a more appropriate way of furthering the democratic process, I'd succumb to the temptation to call Dr the Hon. George Vella a pea-brain himself and ask for his resignation.

In fact, here goes: "Oy, pea-brain, resign, why don't you?"

Over the weekend, Vella's boss, Premier Muscat, who has much to answer for himself in the example he gives his minions about responding to questions about his administration, breathlessly imparted to us the news that the nation should now swoon at the dainty feet of Dr the Hon. "Shame on You" Konrad Mizzi's wife because she had attracted a major telecoms player from the Middle Kingdom to come and test something here.

It is to be assumed that they will not be testing surveillance equipment or otherwise furthering the cause of totalitarianism and generally interfering in the citizenry's right to communicate without the fear that we are being spied on.

After all, the Government has denied that it is interested in doing this, because there is nothing in writing that can be tied to the other story about this sort of thing that broke over the last few days.

I have no objection to anyone investing here, of course, and if it is in furtherance of the high-tech initiatives that Premier Muscat found in place when he scuttled up the steps to Castille "to make the best of it" (as his lady wife had said they fully intended to do) all the better, but could we have chapter and verse please?

Especially as we're supposed to be thanking Sai Mizzi Lang for attracting the investment here, rendering the thousands upon thousands of euro shovelled in her general direction 'cheap at double the price', if Premier Muscat is to be believed.

How many people are going to be employed in testing whatever it is these Chinese chaps are going to test?  How much hard cash are they going to invest here in order to do this?

On the other hand, how much are we going to have to pay them to come here and do their testing?  Is this going to be another "fantastic investment" on the lines of Joseph "There's oil out there" Mizzi's fantastic investment in Autobus de Leon's bus system?

Sorry if my questions betray a pea brain, I'm not up the standards Dr George Vella sets everyone but himself.
