Books of poetry are a delight because we can dip into them whenever we are looking for a few moments to escape into another place. Poems can give us inspiration, comfort, self -knowledge and a glimpse of other people’s worlds and feelings.

Wings of a Butterfly is the name of one of the poems in Jozeff Ján Matejka’s book.

And it is a good one, since the poems within it fly smoothly through different countries, times and experiences to bring a collection that is truly in-spired by the author’s full life and varied interests. Matejka was born in Slovakia and now lives in Malta.

A doctor by profession, he has written poetry and children’s books in English and Maltese.

His poems are all influenced by his love of family, travel, traditions and adventure.

They give us a topical flavour of so many different aspects of today’s world to enjoy and also a chance to quietly reflect on our place in it.

The book’s cover design and illustrations are by Ivona Matejková.
