Have you ever been at a restaurant where many of the patrons were busy on their phones, messaging or checking on updates from social media, instead of talking to the person sat in front of them?

The vast majority of the Maltese have a Facebook account. In Malta, an estimated 40 per cent of the people using this social network are children aged seven to 12, despite being younger than the age threshold stipulated by the social media giant.

Tuesday's Times Talk discussed the impact of this worldwide phenomenon and whether social media has made us more sociable or if it has segregated us into our own little virtual world. Tuesday's edition featured social media expert Alex Grech, lecturer Marie Briguglio and psychologist Edward Curmi.

Presented by Times of Malta's head of media Herman Grech and chief reporter Mark Micallef, Times Talk is live on Tuesday at 6.45pm on TVM. Join in the conversation.
