Louis Pouzin, known as one of the fathers of the internet, will be addressing a conference in Malta today about the dawn of the internet in the 1970s and the challenges it faces in this day and age.

The Internet as a Global Public Resource is an international conference being held at St James Cavalier, Valletta, over two days to discuss the preservation of a functional and safe internet as a global public resource.

A greater understanding of the nature and role of the internet, as well as future policymaking, research and policy dialogue will be discussed.

The conference is being organised by Diplo Foundation, the government and the World Economic Forum, with the participation of numerous major international entities.

Conference promoter Alex Sceberras Trigona, special envoy of the Prime Minister for the World Trade Organisation, said: “This conference is a direct result of our multiple diplomatic initiatives and representations for proper internet governance.”
