The government and the opposition came head to head within hours of a critical report expressing reservations over a hedging deal worth millions struck with a trading company from Azerbaijan.
While Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi recognised the shortcomings outlined by the National Audit Office he defended the procedure adopted. Opposition deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami, on the other hand, pointed out that the report defined this as a “shortcoming in terms of governance”. He also raised suspicions over the Azeri company the government was dealing with.
Grilled whether he was prepared to resign if the completion date of June 2016 for the new power station was not adhered to, Dr Mizzi was non committal.
