Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said today that his ministry had still not received a copy of the internal police report of the conduct of operations surrounding the case of Darryl Luke Borg.
Borg, 27, had been remanded in custody after being charged with holding up a Birkirkara confectionery. Two days later the mistake came to light when Inspector Elton Taliana arraigned Roderick Grech over the incident. He pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence.
Police inspector Elton Taliana, who had arraigned the right man, had been chastised by the Police Board for failing to alert his chain of command about a mistake made by the Criminal Investigations Department.
This evening, replying to questions by Nationalist MP David Agius on the publication of pending reports, Mr Abela said that while the findings of an Inquiry ordered by the government had been published, it was up to the Police Commissioner to decide whether the internal police report should be published.
Mr Agius pointed out that the former Police Commissioner (Peter Paul Zammit) had said the report would be published.
Mr Abela said the ministry had not received the report, he had not seen it, but it would ultimately be up to the current commissioner to decide.
He reiterated his commitment to published another report on how a person was allegedly let off despite assaulting for police officers at Zabbar police station.
