An escaped horse bolted headlong into this car and then died of its injuries on the road on January 4. The police said the horse escaped from its sulky in Attard, heading first towards Rabat and then towards Żebbuġ , where the accident occurred. The driver, a 27-year-old woman, suffered extreme shock and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The ceremonial guard was re-established at the Presidential Palace, in Saint George’s Square, Valletta on January 2 after an absence of nine months. The ceremony dates back to the rule of the Order of St John when the Grand Master’s personal guards were stationed in the buildings surrounding what was then known as Piazza De La Guard.
