The President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Mr Preca, together with a number of children from sixty different schools, on Wednesday morning attended a service concelebrated by Bishop Charles Scicluna to launch the annual campaign Milied Flimkien.
The ceremony began with the traditional procession of Christmas, and was followed by the homily of Christmas by Faye Grima Buttigieg and Amy Cunningham. The Santa Monica school students organised the Christmas pageant.
Afterwards, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca made a speech for the occasion where she explained to the children present how her perception of Christmas changed throughout the years. For the President, Christmas now means love and it is precisely here where she made appeal to the children.
The President explained to them how it is possible to feel the spirit of Christmasa throughout the year. This is because when children appreciate and know there are people who love them and they know how to love back, then that would be the same as the spirit of Christmas. This is the same spirit which was felt when a baby in the cold of Bethlehem was born, but he was loved by his parents and all those who visited him.
A similar event was organised for school children in Gozo on Friday and it too was attended by the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Mr Preca.
This ceremony was organised by the Projects and Initiatives Section within the Directorate for Educational Services, which also takes care of the rest of the Milied Flimkien initiative.
