Labour leader Alfred Sant said yesterday Labour ministers would adopt zero tolerance on corruption.

Speaking at a political conference in Lija, Dr Sant said his ministers will be part of a government that will be genuine and tell people the truth.

Referring to an interview carried in The Sunday Times yesterday, where the Prime Minister was quoted as saying he will reshuffle the Cabinet after the forthcoming general election, Dr Sant said Dr Gonzi failed to mention whom he will replace.

"Following the next general election, there will be a Labour government and the reshuffle would be complete because the country needs a reshuffle.

"Those who do not agree with anything the government would be doing will be allowed to voice their opinion," he said.

Dr Sant said his government would be giving importance to the education sector. One of the proposals by his government would be that classes in primary schools will not have more than 25 pupils.

The country had reached the lowest levels of new jobs since Malta became independent. There are now 26,000 people whose only occupation is a part-time job and most of them have no choice but to stick to the job they have in hand.

During the electoral campaign, the MLP will publish a plan on how it will generate more jobs.

Dr Sant said a former Sea Malta employee who was injured at work had suffered a 95 per cent disability. The Sea Malta saga is being settled in court and yet this employee is still without any form of compensation.

Dr Sant also brought up the national breast screening programme as proposed in the budget, saying the government is fooling people because there are no human resources or equipment available for such a programme to materialise.

In reaction to this comment, the government said breast screening should not be politicised. As from next year, it said, women aged between 50 and 60 would be screened. This is possible because Mater Dei Hospital has the necessary equipment to carry out such a programme.
