Impressive medal haul for Malta Karate Team in Polish Open

Twenty-three athletes representing the Malta Karate Federation recently returned home with an impressive haul of medals, including seven gold, eight silver and nine bronze, following their participation in the Polish Open Championships which were held in Bielsko Biala.

Over 800 competitors from Australia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Georgia, Italy, Japan, Norway, Poland, Russia, Scotland and Slovakia participated in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) events.

In the final classifications, Malta was ranked third overall.

Malta Karate Federation president Kenneth Abela said: “Once again, we have witnessed another superb and disciplined performance by our athletes, proof that with dedication and determination satisfactory results can be achieved.”

The Maltese team in Poland was accompanied by national coach Joe Tanti, technical director James Galea, Michelle Vella as head of delegation, and Anthony Zammit as referee.
