Hunters yesterday fired blanks as the statue of St Julian was being carried out of the church in the locality dedicated to the saint, ushering in the hunting season that opens today and closes on January 31. They stood on the parish church roof as they saluted their patron saint, an annual event now in its 31st year. After the gun salute, a number of turtle doves reared by hunters federation members were released.
