Nathan Lee Xuereb missed out on a bronze medal in the Double Trap event at the Commonwealth Games after losing his third place play-off with Indian shooter Asab Mohd at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range.

The young Maltese shooter had done well to qualify for the medal matches but he came up short in the decider, gaining 24 points to Mohd's 26.

Xuereb thus finished fourth, certainly a very positive result for the 17-year-old who has now established himself as one of the leading Double Trap shooters in Malta.

Scott won the gold medal after beating his English compatriot Matthew French by one point in the final.

Xuereb had obtained a total of 131 points in the qualification round to place fifth, four points adrift of Mohd who led the field at the end of the initial phase.

William Chetcuti, a two-time bronze medal winner at the Commonwealth Games, has failed to progress to the decisive matches at the Barry Buddon Shooting Range, finishing one place outside the top six with a total of 125 points, three behind Australia’s Tom Turner who claimed the final berth in the semi-finals.
