Former MP and Labour Party official Wenzu Mintoff is to be sworn in as a judge tomorrow.

His appointment was announced by the government this afternoon.

Dr Mintoff, 54,  graduated as a lawyer in 1984. He worked in the Maltese mission in New York in 1983  and later also worked in the Attorney General's office and as legal adviser to the Malta Development Corporation and Malta Enterprise.

In politics, he was elected Labour MP but briefly broke ranks and joined Alternattiva, before rejoining the Labour Party.

Until recently he edited the Labour Party's weekly KullHadd.
