The people have spoken and yet again they have made it clear that they like his royal smugness Joseph Muscat and Co. So to all labour people I say congrats, may your leader be enlightened and not increase his humbleness by 200%.

If this election has done—or will do—anything it is give a good free ticket to the Labour Movement to go on unchecked and unruffled in all their excesses.

I still think that a Prime Minister hugging a convicted criminal just before an election is frightening. But if this daftness gets you votes then go for it Teflon Joe. Your amazing ways mesmerise and garner votes.

The more I reflect, the more the PN sounds like a lost cause. Sad to think so but if all their campaigning was based on silly gimmicks and a complete lack of vision or anything clear-headed and positive then the PN needs to do some serious thinking.

And sweeping of old faces, old ideas which are long gone mouldy, are other definite things the new leadership should indulge in. Oh and maybe a new set of people to lead who might be less connected to the old glorious, but now oh so woefully, tired party.

Other interesting facts from this election make me cringe, cry or worry.

EU-wide people did tend to go haywire and there was widespread freaky voting for nut-jobs in France, UK, Greece Denmark and many other countries. Ours seem rather mild by comparison: voting in Alfred Sant. Sant still thinks that the referendum for EU accession was won by his then renowned, now forgotten, Partnership..

But there is more. AD are sounding more and more like a dinosaur. I know dinosaurs like Alfred Sant can still return to dominate but they’ve had their time, now time to move on. Go for a break—water the trees or hug an ostrich. They’re spoilers and only just beat Norman Lowell. Not exactly great news for them, which is a pity because as a lobby group they would be great—even greater than the seemingly spent PN.

Norman Lowell’s 6000+ votes are frightening. The less said about him the less I despair. How can he be trusted? That there are voters who think he is better than quite a number of other mainstream candidates is tragic.

The Eagle man should also be super-proud of himself. A comedy in the making but, as he rightly pointed out, he will not resign. He also added words to the effect that he will be letting others like Dr Busuttil do those resigning honours first.

Malta is justifiably proud of its EU credentials. Both dominant parties (one truly bruised) will be winning all the seats and sitting with the mainstream parties. One MEP will have a strong link at heart at least to the eurosceptics but I’m sure he will end up voting with the Socialists on most issues.

We’re usually a joke and we take ourselves too seriously. But at the end of the day, unlike our old masters of democracy Britain, we will not be sending a party like UKIP, comprising fools and clowns, to represent us.
