The 51st congress of the Holy Name Society in Gozo came to an end last Sunday at St Paul’s Shipwreck parish centre in Munxar.

The function started with a cortege from the house of the Sisters of Charity with the statue of Christ the Good Shepherd.

The event included an address by parish priest Fr Michael Said, messages from the Gozo and national chaplains Mgr Eucharist Sultana and Fr Tonio Mallia Milanes, OP, a Powerpoint presentation and a sketch by young people.

In his keynote address, Gozo Bishop Mario Grech spoke about the Church and how its message was relevant to a post-modern society. He said the faithful were duty-bound to reach out to everyone with empathy and compassion as Christ’s healing antidotes for all ills people face. The function came to an end with the benediction.

During the preceding week the society held various activities including visits to State and Church schools, to various work places and Church groups and organisations.
