German's IBG Automation GmbH is to establish itself in Malta in the coming weeks, Economic Affairs Minister Chris Cardona said. Its project was approved by Malta Enterprise last year.

Dr Cardona made this announcement in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, during a visit at the stand of the Company IBG Automation GmbH which is currently taking part in  the Hannover Fair, the most prominent industry fair.

IBG  is part of Goeke Technology Group and specializes in the development and production of automation systems for various industries.

Major customers include BMW, BAYER and MIELE.

The Malta operation will be involved in design, development and manufacturing services. Final assembly will be made in Germany. It will start with small sized projects that involve light weight parts and robots.  The company also plans to set up a machine design and simulation cell for the design of larger machines.

The initial investment will be of over €600,000.
