Former Tourism Minister Joe Grima has been appointed special envoy of the prime minister to the World Tourism Organisation.

Mr Grima confirmed the appointment this morning, saying he would receive the standard remuneration.

Mr Grima, a former broadcaster, was head of the Broadcasting Authority before entering the political fray in the 1970s. He served as minister for industry and for tourism in the Mintoff and Mifsud Bonnici governments before a falling out with Labour.

After leaving politics he presented a TV programme on NET TV but return to Labour after Joseph Muscat's election and was given a discussion programme on One TV.
