Three entrepreneurs have set up a charity to sell bottles of water, at the same time raising awareness on the lack of access to good water and sanitation around the world, donating part of the proceeds to water-based projects.

Contribute Water was formed by Janika Portelli, Nils Wijkmark and Karl Wijkmark, and is selling bottles of still purified drinking water imported from Bulgaria.

The water projects are executed by selected charity organisations, in particular Pump Aid, a UK-based organisation founded in 1998 which works with rural communities in Africa.

It has delivered over 8,000 water and sanitation projects benefitting over 1.1 million people.

Contribute Ltd is donating a minimum of 10 per cent of the wholesale price for each bottle of Contribute Water sold and, within months of launching the project, it had already donated over €100 to the charity.

Today, more than one out of nine people – 783 million people – in the world, lack access to safe drinking water, and more than two out of five lack adequate sanitation (2.5 billion people). Every 20 seconds, a child dies as a result of poor sanitation, meaing there are1.5 million preventable deaths each year. The water is being stocked by various outlets. The company also offers free delivery for minimum orders of three packages of 12 bottles.
