Jason Sciberras ended the year on a high yesterday after winning the Luigi Franchi Trophy.

The skeet competition, organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation at its Bidnija ranges, was on 50 clays with the top six shooters progressing to the semi-finals on 16 clays. The medal match was also on 16 clays.

Sciberras was not at his best in the qualifying round as he trailed in sixth place with an unimpressive tally of 38 points, but hit top form when it mattered most.

In the semi-finals, Sciberras achieved the best score, 13 before securing victory with a final round of 11 points, one more than Paul Vella who had targeted 42 clays in the qualifying stage, four more than the eventual winner.

Joe Muscat took third place while Silvio Attard, the early leader with 45 points, slipped to fourth after a disappointing performance in the final round.
