Valletta today announced a number of new initiatives for supporters including that the club was in the process of publishing a book about the history of football in Valletta.

The data is being compiled by Carmel Baldacchino, a columnist in Times of Malta and it is anticipated that the book would be in two volumes.

The first volume will cover the period from the start of football in the City until season 63/64 is expected to be published early next year.

The information was given by senior vice-president Paul Spiteri who also announced that Valletta had just signed Spanish defender Oscar Reyes Sanchez, who has been registered after his international clearance arrived this week.

Vice-president Alex Fenech announced that tomorrow, the club, in conjunction with their sponsors Insignia, will launch a Valletta credit card with the slogan “Use it with pride”.

It is aimed at all Valletta supporters who will benefit from all the facilities of a normal credit card as well as other football related incentives.

The card and other initiatives will be launched tomorrow evening during a social event at Palazzo Parisio during which a number a football memorabilia, including signed shirts of football legends Pele and Lionel Messi and football boots signed by Cristiano Ronaldo will be auctioned in aid of the Valletta nursery.

Coach Mark Miller spoke about his team’s preparations for Sunday’s match against Hibernians. Miller said that it is important that Valletta sent out a strong message that they are the number one team in Malta.

Although not a decisive one, the game, at the national stadium at 4pm, is still very important as it will show how far Valletta has come this season and whether the team is moving in the right direction.

“Our aim is to go top and stay top. That is what the supporters demand and what we, the technical staff and players expect.”

Captain Ryan Fenech said Valletta were this season more compact as a squad.

“We understand more what the coach wants from us. The Maltese players in the club have virtually stayed the same and that is an advantage… This year our foreigners are good players and also have a good character,” he said.
