The new law courts building in Gozo, announced in the Budget yesterday, will be a €12 million project which will provide state of the art facilities, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said in Parliament this morning.

He said the plans submitted to Mepa were an improvement on plans which were being drawn up by the former government. The new government, however, had added another floor.

The building, further down from Triq l-Ewropa in Victoria, will include a 600-place underground car park designed in consultation with the AFM to deter the risk of bomb threats.

Dr Refalo said the Gozo Ministry wanted all court services available in Malta to also be available in Gozo. The only exception so far was trials by jury.

He said the current law courts building in the Citadella was difficult to work in and inaccessible for persons with disability.
