A €390,217 restoration project at the parish of San Lawrenz has been completed.

The project, which has been underway for the past four years, will help provide a more complete tourism product in the locality.

Co-financed by the European Union, the project included the restoration of the facade and belfries, the lighting system, the parvis, paintings by renowned artist Giuseppe Cali, and the Church pipe organ.

As from today, the church will be open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 11am and 1pm and from 3 to 5pm. Visitors can make use of an audio-visual interactive panel, which provides information in various languages on the village of San Lawrenz and its surrounding areas.

Another initiative was the printing of a tourism map entitled “San Lawrenz and the western part of Gozo”, that is being distributed to tourism operators in Gozo and Malta.

The restoration of the pipe organ, which has been silent for years, will be celebrated with an annual concert. This year’s, by the renowned choir Schola Cantorum Jubilate, will be held on December 27.
