I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that I suck at getting into trouble.

I’ve been failing for so long that it’s now getting to me and am about to give up; I’m about to turn into a good girl.

You see, I’ve been breaking the law by taking photos at passport control at the airport for years, and yet I’ve never been arrested.

Earlier this year I consciously and actively broke the law of ‘silence’ during those twenty four hours of ‘reflection’ before voting time, and once again, whilst others were taken in, detained, and questioned, I failed to get myself arrested.

What does a girl have to do to get herself cuffed around here?

Now I’m not an expert in airport security, and from the news reports that have been doing the rounds it doesn’t seem like anyone is, but let’s assume for one second that it is actually prohibited to take photos in the area where Norman Vella was accused of snapping one too many.

Let’s assume that he did take a photo of Kurt Farrugia and Ramona Attard leaving for London, and let’s assume that someone got irked by this breach of privacy/security, and called the police.

Unless this someone was Norman Vella himself, (which is the only explanation that would indicate some form of intelligent life at passport control) anyone else who allegedly made that phone call, should get their head examined.

It is universally acknowledged that the best place to hide something is out in the open, in other words, if you’re trying to keep something private, the chances are that the more you try to conceal it, the more people will try to out it, talk about it, and make a big deal out of it.

This phenomena is known as the Barbra Streisand effect and whilst it can happen to every Tom, Dick and Harry, you can bet your hairy ears that if Norman Vella is involved, with his innate media-handling talent, it will happen tenfold and come back to bite you in the...well you know where I’m going with this.

Back in 2003 good ol’ Barbra Streisand tried with all her might to withhold photos of her home in Malibu from being published. She went as far as suing the California Coastal Records Project for publishing an online photographic archive of the entire California coastline which included shots of her cliff-side Malibu mansion. She maintained that the pictures invaded her privacy.

That’s all the media needed. Streisand’s efforts backfired big time and links of her beautiful (now not so private home) started to sprout all over the place. Thousands and thousands of people saw the house, so many more than would have bothered in the first place had she shut up and grinned....hence the name Barbra Streisand Effect.

Norman Vella might not have his daily airtime anymore, but this week he managed to log more publicity than ever. I can almost hear him humming to the tune of Barbra Streisand’s ‘We’ve only just begun’.
