Nicky Carabott won the LTP Trap Trophy after a combination of fine scores placed him on top of the leaderboard in a competition organised by the Malta Shooting Sport Federation at their ranges in Bidnija, yesterday.

The competition was on 50 clays with the top six earning the right to shoot for the semi-finals slots, on 15 clays, and then the medal matches which were also contested on 15 clays.

Carabott and George Mifsud had the best scores in the opening round after targeting 44 points each. They were joined in the next phase by Frank Scorfna and Paul Vella (both 42) and George Cassar and Alvin Vella (both 39).

Scorfna and Alvin Vella failed to progress to the semi-finals after finishing fifth and sixth with nine points.

In the decisive shoots, Carabott beat Paul Vella 12-6 and Mifsud had the better of Cassar 12-11 for third place.

Meanwhile, the shooting federation has confirmed that the Malta-Wales Skeet and Trap Event will be staged at Bidnija between October 31 and November 2.

Competition starts with the Skeet shoot which runs for two days. The Trap competition will bring the tournament to an end on November 2.
