True Q and Cheeky Jack were the winners of the two major events at the Marsa racetrack, yesterday. The top events on the card were from the trotting Premier Class and a flat race, both forming part of the 38th meeting of the season.

Six horses took part in the flat race.

Gold As Good (Demis Zammit) was the first out of the gates with Diamante Grande (Sarah Borg) and Darielli (Charles Pace) in hot pursuit.

But with 300m to go, Gold As Good lost its pace and was overtaken by American Cheeky Jack (Charles Vella) which secured its second win of the year. Gold As Good had to settle for second place ahead of Diamante and Henderlik (Matthew Mallia).

There were 16 horses registered for the Premier race.

Oran (Carmelo Farrugia) took the lead with a lap to go but this French 11-year-old trotter was unable to maintain its position and soon ran out of steam.

True Q (Shawn Portelli) shot ahead and maintained its challenge up to the post for its first win of the season.

Nabab du Chatelet (Charles Camilleri) was the runner-up and Oltedo de Rieux (Noel Baldacchino) and Arnie Sensation (Gilbert Farrugia) were third and fourth respectively.

There was a keen tussle between two horses in the straight for home of the only Gold Class race on the card, yesterday.

Eventually, it was Swedish Veikko Hornline (Carl Caruana) which gained its first win of the year, half-a-length ahead of Skars Hanna (Jeffrey Said). Nitesco d’Antony (David Ellul) and Celebrity Photo (Marvin Cauchi) followed home in that order.

Another meeting at Marsa will be held on Sunday afternoon.
