Work on Malta's first solar farm to start imminently

Work on Malta's first solar farm, being built by ElectroFix Energy Ltd for Medserv, is to start imminently.

The project, consisting of 8,211 photovoltaic panels, will be completed by the second quarter next year.

Medserv said in a statement it will be utilising the vast roof space on its  warehouses at the Malta Freeport.

The 2.05 MWp roof-mounted solar farm will produce an average of 3420MW hours per year, and is expected to save 2975.30 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.

“The beauty of such an investment is that the return is not only guaranteed, but quantifiable. Our roof space was dead space before. The solar farm has provided us with a new revenue stream as well as allows us to contribute to towards providing a more sustainable environment,” director Anthony Duncan said.

The PV panels were delivered to the Medserv base last month. Through this project, Malta will be a step closer in reaching its green energy targets set by the EU.
