The devil is in the detail as I have always been told. Then you wake up one day and realise that this is a quotable quote which has been wrongly quoted and attributed. One of those know-all sites told me that the actual quote talked of God and his details and not his arch-enemy Beelzebub—there’s detail there and much of it and it really drives me up the wall.

But whichever supernatural power is concerned most with details I am perplexed way beyond quotes or who said what. When you look at some tiny, unrelated details of events in Malta these last few months you start feeling slight fear, a quiver of hey not all is really right, is it?

Little things, little piddly things happen and yet no one seems too concerned.

Gaming Authority inspectors have been instructed not to take action against illegal machines. What? Excuse me? Can someone explain this madness?

More tiny details: the Prime Minister has now realised that Malta is not exactly the land with the cleanest of roads and alleyways. He has also told us that the free medicines situation is not too good. I thought—but then why should we the people think at all?—he had prepared, down to the minutest detail, how he and his dream team were going to inundate us all with medicines which would be delivered to our door.

The last little detail is what Joseph Muscat said about the controversy in the running of the power station. Apparently he has now been told by experts that he cannot convert the power station temporarily to diesel. I thought we had a ready-to-action road map. So hadn’t they spoken to experts? Who led them, and us the electorate, up the silly path? Are we still in for a few surprising details once experts kick in?

God spare us from these devilish details.
