The Malta Union of Teachers complained today that an applicant had been refused right of appeal after failing an interview for the post of Assistant Head in a church school by one point.

The union said the Church authorities initially said that the appeal period had elapsed, when the appeal period was never defined anywhere on the Call or on any official notice.

After the Union’s intervention the Church authorities decided to dismiss the appeal because appeals are not stipulated in the Collective Agreement. The Union replied that the right of appeal was a fundamental right and it was not written in any collective agreement.

The union has asked the Church Authorities to revise its position immediately.

The union explained that this was an internal call and no one had passed.
