The Nationalist Party said today that unemployment figures which showed a 9.5 per cent increase in people seeking work in July, compared to the same month last year, were a cause for concern.
Such figures added to concerns about the Labour government's attitude to jobs and the economy, Mario de Marco, spokesman on the economy, said.
The new government over the past five months had been bent on appointing its people to various bodies while offering no strategy for economic growth and job-creation, he said.
The economy and jobs could not be taken for granted, especially since 25,000 new jobs need to be created over the coming five years to keep up with demand for jobs.
The statement was also signed by Stephen Spiteri, spokesman on jobs and persons with disabilities.
