A miniature Japanese garden is to be inaugurated at San Anton Gardens tomorrow.

The new garden will adorn the immediate area around the ceremonial tree planted by Emperor Hirohito (then Crown Prince) during his visit to Malta in 1921.

The Japanese garden is the brainchild of Saki Kosugi who had visited Malta for a conference organised by the ELC for the European Landscapes Contractors Association in Spring of 2011.

Mr Kosugi fell in love with Malta and took a huge number of photographs during his visit. He also was most impressed with the Hirohito tree and decided to donate this garden and embellish the area of his famous ancestor. He will be in Malta for the official commemoration.
