Għajn Tuffieħa tower now open to public

The tower overlooking Għajn Tuffieħa Bay has been opened to the public by the Gaia Foundation, offering previously-unseen views of the northwestern coastal region.

The tower forms part of a ‘peace grove’ where visitors can enjoy over 20 different indigenous plants, including the increasingly rare sandarac gum tree, the Maltese national tree.

Best known for its pinelike needles, the sandarac tree is mostly found in low sand dunes and prevails in salty conditions.

The Gaia Foundation said the grove, having flourished despite the harsh weather conditions, reflected the perseverance of the “titans of peace and change”.
