Let me start with an admission: my subject today is women, their rights and some crass stupidity which dictates that they be given preferential treatment. So if you’re easily offended, a women libber, or one of the two extremely lucky—or is that extremely daft?—PN delegates who got voted in by virtue of the gender rule that discriminates against men then do not read on.

Also may I add that one of the two elected males in the executive who had to make way for their female counterparts is my wife’s nephew, which might make me rather biased.

I can never understand how any woman worth any salt can ever allow herself to be voted in by such a stupid sexist rule. More than voted in, it sounds like chosen for no known attributes—or for attributes and assets that if I notice them usually get me in hot soup with my wife, my editor and all the rest of the guardians of gender morality.

If I were a woman and was chosen in such a way, I’d have done what Ann Fenech decided to do even before the first ballot was cast. She rightly pre-announced that if she was chosen through this rule she would renounce her so-called victory and let the male sit on the executive. And if the rule says that it would still pass on to the next female in line, then these rules are not just discriminatory but infernally outrageous.

Women winning positions because of their sex is the ultimate in dumbness. If this is the only way forward to choose women then please do not go forward. This is regressive and silly. Hurrah to the PN which now has two executive members who were not wanted by the councillors but who wear skirts, bras and sheer tights. Batty is our world for sure.

One last thing regarding this gender discrimination: we’ve had seven different prime ministers since independence. Once we are so dead set on righting discrimination at all costs can we now promise the Maltese people that the next prime minister will be a woman?

Otherwise it’s hardly fair to have only idiotic males ruling and ruining us. Go for it Joseph, go for it Simon—let Josephine or Simone be our next PM at Castille. Then we will really be liberated, then we will truly be breathing equality.
