Target shooter Eleanor Bezzina did Malta proud recently after winning the prestigious Scottish Pistol Championships in Edinburgh.

Leading competitors from England, Scotland, Wales, Norway and Malta took part in the various events, held over two days and hosted by the Scottish Pistol Association at the historic castle of Tulliallan.

After a silver medal in the mixed event with a score of 371/400, Bezzina faced the challenge of home shooters Caroline Brownlee and Kirsty Liddon as well as Aina Florli, the Wales champion.

Bezzina qualified for the finals in fifth place with a commendable score of 364 out of 400 points.

The finals were held on electronic targets and according to new ISSF rules where the eight finalists started from scratch.

Bezzina shot consistently well to top the leaderboard for most of the decisive stage of the competition.

She was eventually declared winner at the last shot with a margin of over five points on second-placed Brownlee (188.6). Liddon scored 169.3 points to take third place.
