Fr Mikiel Fsadni, who together with Prof. Godfrey Wettinger discovered Malta’s oldest piece of literature Il-Kantilena in September 1966, died this morning, aged 97.

Fr Fsadni and Prof. Wettinger had found Il-Kantilena, written by Pietru Caxaro in the 1480s, by chance at the Notarial archives in Valletta.

A Dominican friar, Fr Fsadni turned 97 just two days ago and he was the oldest ever Dominican priest in Malta.

His funeral is being held at the Dominican Church in Rabat on Saturday at 8.45am.

DEATH OF OLDEST FRANCISCAN

Meanwhile, coincidentally the Franciscans this morning also announced the death of their oldest priest in Malta - Fr Benjamin (Carmelo) Galea O.F.M. from Valletta.

He served as Provincial Definitor and Provincial Bursar and was the founder of Porziuncola Retreat House in Baħar ic-Cagħaq. He was 96 years old.
