Raymond Bugeja, who has announced his intention to contest the leadership of the PN, is a twice-divorced wealthy businessman who spent most of his life in Milan but feels the ‘philanthropic concept’ to serve his country.

In an interview, he said he did not like to discuss his private life. He was well-off, he said, but he was no Silvio Berlusconi - a reference to the Italian tycoon turned politician.

Mr Bugeja described himself as a “conservative with a liberal heart and a capitalist with a social heart”.
