The unique strengths and abilities of people with Down’s syndrome, the most common known cause of intellectual disability, will be in the limelightthis week.

Non-profit organisation Inspire is holding a series of events to mark Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week, which began yesterday.

“The purpose of Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week is all about making people aware of the challenges that children and adults with Down’s face,” said Maria Vella-Galea from Inspire.

“More importantly though, this week is also about highlighting the potential our students have and how we, at Inspire, can help them develop such potential, focusing on the ability rather than the disability.”

Today, children and adolescents, along with their tutors, will be distributing posters in various localities, outlining facts about Down’s in today’s society.

A fun day will take place tomorrow at 10.30am at the Family Park in Marsascala.
