Shooters William Chetcuti and Nathan Lee Xuereb both failed to sparkle in their first competitive appearance outside the country this year when they took part in the Double Trap event at the The Amir of Kuwait Grand Prix 2013, in the Middle East, yesterday.

The shoot, organised by the Kuwait Shooting Sport Federation, was held under the new regulations that were introduced recently by the world governing body, the ISSF.

Each shooter at the Double Trap event had to figure in five rounds of 15 pairs each.

Xuereb hit 24 from 30 clays in the first round and gradually maintained a steady improvement hitting 24, 26, 27 and 28 for an overall 129 from a possible 150. He was classified ninth overall in the final standings.

Chetcuti started with a modest 22 before compiling four successive scores of 26 to finish with an overall 126 that left him 14th overall.

The Amir of Kuwait Grand Prix continues today with the opening 75-clay round from the Trap competition.

Malta will be represented by Frans Pace, James Galea, Nicky Carabott, Frank Scorfna and George Cassar. The second round of 50 clays will be held tomorrow.

The Maltese contingent is headed by MSSF president Carmelo Cascun. Coach Jimmy Bugeja is also accompanying the team in Kuwait.
