A seminar on the benefits and use of trees will be held on February 19 at 6pm at Attard primary school, Ħal-Warda Street, by Attard local council together with Flimkien Għal Ambjent Aħjar.

The speakers are Alfred Baldacchino and Antoine Gatt.

There are about 60 species of indigenous trees in Malta, some of which may be very rare and close to extinction.

Besides reducing air and noise pollution, releasing oxygen and absorbing heat in summer, trees can also contribute to Malta’s economy and create green jobs.

The seminar is open to the public, and is especially aimed at teachers, landscapers, nature lovers and local councils.

Refreshments will be served after the seminar. A donation of €5 would be appreciated from those attending.

To book a place, e-mail sigar@faa.org.mt or call 2731 8792 or 7931 8792.

An online petition to save trees in Malta is also available for signature at www.change.org/petitions/stop-killing-trees-in-malta.
