Marianna Kisvardai established a new national record in the third Eley-NSRA selection competition held on Saturday at the air-gun ranges in Bidnija.

Kisvardai shot impeccably all the way to achieve a world class score of 391/400 points and claim first place in a highly-contested air-rifle event.

Alison Vella also showed fine form as she took the runner-up spot behind Kisvardai with a score of 375/400 points.

Third place went to another female shooter, Hanyalka Adam. She finished with 354 points. Romeo Zuber (351) was fourth ahead of Michael Xuereb (345).

In the air-pistol event, Eleanor Bezzina hit 369 points from a possible 400 to seal first place and beat the challenge of Stephen Vassallo who managed a tally of 360.

Ray Cacciattolo totalled 353 points in this competition to settle for third place ahead of Mario Mallia Milanes (329) and Josette Galea Calleja (306).

In the junior air-rifle event, Gianluca Azzopardi Spiteri showed his potential by winning the event with an encouraging 338 points from 400.

Newcomer Matthias Mangion was second with a good 232, just five points ahead of Isaac Zammit.

At the end of the competition, new Malta Shooting Sport Federation president Carmel Cascun congratulated all participants and presented trophies to the winners.
